11 December 2015 – The Philippine Embassy in Buenos Aires participated in an ASEAN Conference entitled “ASEAN 2015 – Results and Conclusions” at Casa de Asia in Buenos Aires on December 02.
The conference, mainly organized by the Malaysian Embassy in Buenos Aires in collaboration with Casa de Asia and the other ASEAN Embassies in Buenos Aires (Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam), dealt with the outcomes of the recently concluded 27th ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur and the priorities or key initiatives of each ASEAN Member State.
In her presentation, Second Secretary and Consul Ma. Carmela Teresa A. Cabreira highlighted the long-standing relationship of the Philippines and ASEAN and discussed current Philippine ASEAN priorities such as maritime security, support for the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC), and the promotion of migrant workers’ protection, among others.
Second Secretary Cabreira also took the opportunity to brief the audience about updates on the West Philippine Sea (WPS), particularly on developments in the Philippines’ arbitration case.
Aside from the Ambassadors and representatives of ASEAN Member States, Professor Ezequiel Ramoneda, an Argentine expert on the region from the Universidad Nacional de La Plata - International Relations Institute, presented Argentina's historical links with individual ASEAN Member States and the challenges and opportunities for Argentina and ASEAN in the coming years.
The conference is part of the collective efforts of the ASEAN Embassies present in Buenos Aires to bring ASEAN closer to Argentina and its people. END
