The Philippine Embassy in Argentina participated in the 47th ASEAN Day Celebration held on 8 August 2014 at the Manuel Belgrano Auditorium of the Argentine Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Worship.
ASEAN is represented by five countries in Argentina – Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam.
The celebration commenced with the singing of the Argentine national anthem followed by the ASEAN anthem.
Argentine Undersecretary for External Political Relations María Carolina Pérez Colman, in her remarks, stated that Argentina aims to strengthen its ties with ASEAN and promote greater and deeper mutual understanding between its peoples. She also said that Argentina's links with ASEAN and its ten member countries occupy a place of privilege and is reflected in Argentina’s appointment of its first ambassador to ASEAN in Jakarta in 2011.
Indonesian Ambassador Dr. Nurmala Kartini Pandjaitan Sjahrir spoke on behalf of the ASEAN Embassies. She mentioned that ASEAN member countries’ Embassies in Argentina are also actively involved in promoting and strengthening the bilateral and bi-regional relationship between ASEAN and Argentina. She said that the ASEAN Embassies continue to collaborate with national authorities, members of the academe, the business sector, and the ASEAN-Argentina Parliamentary Friendship Group to organize events to promote ASEAN in Argentina.
The remarks was followed by the awarding of the winners of the ASEAN Essay Writing Contest. This was the second edition of the said contest. Cash prizes were given to the two winners from the undergraduate level and two winners from the post graduate level.
The program culminated with the cultural performances from the Philippines, Vietnam and Indonesia. The guests were also invited to a reception after the program which included ASEAN delicacies. END
