The Philippine Embassy in Buenos Aires organized craft lessons on 26 September 2015 for the Filipino community in Argentina as part of its Gender and Development activity.

Ambassador Ma. Amelita C. Aquino opened the activity with brief remarks on the Magna Carta for Women, highlighting women’s rights. She said that one way of empowering women is for them to learn new skills for which the Embassy invited Sister Juana Maria Rivera, a Filipina nun, to teach them some decorative crafts.

The participants learned how to make gift boxes from corrugated cardboard, scented gel air freshener and how to do decoupage on wood coasters and tea boxes.

The participants expressed appreciation for the new skills learned which they could use to earn additional income and many of them were delighted to discover their artistic talents.END.
