25 August 2016— The Philippine Embassy in Buenos Aires promoted the Philippines as a key destination for Argentine travelers at the function all of Argentine travel agency, Viajes El Corte Ingles on August 18.

University officials of Universidad del Salvador, representatives of Viajes El Corte Ingles, tour operators, students, and journalists attended the lecture.

Professor Ezequiel Ramoneda, a specialist in Southeast Asian studies, talked about the history of the Philippines, from its pre-colonial days to its colonization by Spain.  Professor Ramoneda highlighted Philippine cultural and historical landmarks, and added little known anecdotes between the Philippines and Argentina.

After the lecture, Ambassador Ma. Amelita C. Aquino talked about the Philippines as a tourism destination. She encouraged the guests to visit the many attractions of the Philippines, noting that although Argentines may consider the Philippines exotic, they will nevertheless find it familiar, because of the shared history between the two countries.

The lecture was conducted in coordination with Universidad del Salvador Faculty of History, Geography and Tourism and Viajes El Corte Ingles. END
