07 December 2016 — The Philippine Embassy, together with the Embassies of Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam and in partnership with the Government of the City of Buenos Aires, organized the second edition of the “Buenos Aires Celebra Sudeste Asiatico” (Buenos Aires Celebrates Southeast Asia) at the Plaza Intendente Seeber on Novemebr 27.
Vietnam, Ambassador Nguyen Dinh Thao, ASEAN Group Chair and Lic. Pamela Malewicz, Undersecretary of Human Rights and Cultural Pluralism of the City of Buenos Aires, delivered the welcome remarks during the event.
It was a day-long celebration of the arts, culture, dances and gastronomy of the ASEAN region, with 24 booths showcasing the food and handicrafts of Southeast Asia.
The Philippine booth sold a range of handicrafts and products such as capiz trays, placemats, costume jewelry, and clutch bags as well as Filipino food prepared by the Filipino community such as pork sisig, beef adobo, fishballs, empanada, barbecue, cassava cake and maja blanca.
As part of the program to enliven the event, visitors were treated to performances of Filipino dances like the tinikling, dayang-dayang and the cariñosa, a fashion show of traditional costumes, as well as several songs in Spanish interpreted by Filipina Cheryl Metillo.
The Philippine booth also promoted Philippine tourist destinations. END
