16 March 2017 BUENOS AIRES — The Philippine Embassy in Buenos Aires, in collaboration with Kombatan Argentina, organized a basic self-defense class for the mostly female Filipino community in Argentina to commemorate National Women’s Month on March 12.
About 30 members of the Filipino community gathered at the Chancery where they were briefed on the salient points of RA 9170, otherwise known as the Magna Carta of Women by Vice Consul Miguel Hornilla. It was followed by a self-defense workshop conducted by Mr. Gustavo Albertti, an Argentinian instructor of Filipino martial arts.
The Filipinos were taught how to assess, prevent, and contain potentially violent situations. Mr. Albertti stressed prudent action in order to avoid any rash actions.
Many of those who joined expressed satisfaction at learning a new skill. END
